Join our Capital Campaign

SECOM's programs have grown by 229% over the past twelve years.

Our move from 1933 Buchanan SW to 1545 Buchanan SW allowed us to make major service improvements in delivery of our programs. It also provides us with opportunities to expand, improve, and add other services as the need arises. Thank you to all who are making this possible, including our cabinet members and major donors!

Progress

As of fall 2004, SECOM has raised nearly $950,000 of the total campaign goal of $1.46 million. Support from you would help ensure that we meet our goal and remain a financially sound and viable organization.

This spring, 2006, we are working hard to reach a specified donation goal which will then be matched by the Frey Foundation by 50%. Your donation or pledge by April 30 will help us to meet this goal and receive $75,000 from this generous group.

Three Phases

The initial Phase One included creating a basic functional facility to house SECOM's food pantry, aerobics classes and other personal development programs, childcare area, and offices (8,500 square feet).

The food pantry has also expanded. Designed like a grocery store, this set up provides the client with a greater sense of dignity by replicating an actual shopping experience. Each patron is allowed to "shop" for the foods that their family perfers rather than receiving a prepacked bag.

Now complete, Phase Two, included renovation of the front brick structure of the building.

The brick section includes a basement under the entire section. Several seperate rooms has allowed SECOM to maintain designated storage space for materials and equipment, including a locked tool cage, as well as to offer storage rooms for other agencies who rent space in the front section. The basement will also be utilized for dry storage of food items for the pantry, allowing SECOM to take advantage of stocking large quantities from local food drives.

The main floor will be shared with partnering organizations for greater community impact and added operational revenue. Administrative offices for Camp Blodgett moved into our building just before January of 2006. There is still a large room available for rent as office space.

The second floor is also available for rent. In the meantime, until it is contracted, the second floor is set up with one area as a lecture hall with row seating , and the other half is furnished with a large oval table and chairs for team and board meetings. These spaces are available to outside groups for rent by the hour or day.

For more information on rentals, contact our Executive Director.

As currently planned, Phase Three of the building project will be to erect a gymnasium at the rear of the building, which will house all expanded heath-related programming. The gym will offer opportunities for SECOM to further partner with organizations such as the SOURCE to host health fairs and other collaborative events and programs.

Although our buliding currently has a wheelchair ramp, lever-type door handles, and restrooms designed for wheelchair accessibility, SECOM hopes to also improve services and our facility for the elderly and persons with disabilities, offering a fully handicap-accessible facility. Future improvements may include an elevator to the second floor.
