Encouraging Family Foundation
Are you the parent of a toddler or infant or are expecting a child in the near future? Are you a parent who would like to give
you and your child a strong foundation to grow as a family? Would you
like to meet other parents who are going through the same challenges? Would you like to refresh your skills and information while adding to your family?
The Encouraging Family Foundation series (six
sessions) is designed for low income (below 150% poverty level)
parents in Kent County who would like to learn more about parenting
issues, such as preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome, disciplining children,
proper nutrition, and child development. This does not need to be a first child for the parent.
Classes also provide education relating to resume
writing, budgeting, family planning, and health and fitness. Additional benefits of the class are incentive gifts and gift cards awarded upon completion of the six-week series.
Classes are held
at SECOM in partnership with Child
& Family Resource Council. Classes average 15 participants.
We offer a Spanish
speaking series, the only one of its kind in Kent County! Referrals often come through the Family
Independence Agency (FIA), local clinics and agencies, and you can also contact
us directly if you would like to join
the next series. Our staff can also refer you to English-speaking sessions at other sites in the area.
