Teen Parents
Are you a teen parent
who wants to be the best parent that you can be and give your child more learning opportunities?
Would you like to talk with other teen parents? Do you know a teen
parent who needs someone to listen?
SECOM's Teen Parents program welcomes
any teen in Kent County and offers ongoing mentoring from adults,
the support of other teens, parenting workshops, and parent-child
play time. Parents receive educational information and engage in
fun activities as well. The developmental growth of the child
is measured by the "Ages and Stages" curriculum.
Parents are
given special prizes for attendance in the program, staying in
school, getting a "passing" report card, and other areas
of success. There are usually about ten moms in each bilingual
class. Parents are encouraged to share their unique cultural experiences
and views.
Teen Parents is
made possible through the support of the Heart of West Michigan
United Way, Wyoming Community Foundation, Grand Rapids Community Foundation, Bank of Holland, and supporting churches. Volunteers offer one-on-one
mentors for parents in the program. Individual donors and agencies
provide encentive gifts including diapers, toys and baby care items, as well
other items for the parents use. Contact us if you would like to donate
items, volunteer
or financially support the Teen Parents program.
