Our Commitment

SECOM's Statement on Community Engagement

As a dedicated community partner focused on providing help today and building hope for tomorrow, SECOM remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting all of our Neighbors. Our staff and board work to ensure that SECOM is a place where everyone feels respected and supported through our programs, services, partnerships, and day-to-day practices.
Supporting individuals and families in our community has always been central to SECOM's mission. We continually challenge ourselves to grow, listen, and respond to the needs around us. We are committed to learning and improving to better understand and serve our Neighbors with compassion and care. Every day, we aim to live up to the promise made over 50 years ago—to be a source of stability, encouragement, and opportunity for all who walk through our doors.

Our Location

Picture

SECOM is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, within an area identified by the United States Department of Agriculture as a “food desert”—a region where residents have limited access to various healthy and affordable food options. Research indicates that such areas often experience higher rates of unemployment and are home to a greater proportion of historically underserved populations. SECOM’s presence in this community plays a vital role in bridging the gap in nutritional access by providing essential food resources and support services to families in a neighborhood where existing infrastructure is inadequate to meet their needs.
