Our Commitment
SECOM's Statement on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
As a community partner dedicated to providing help today and building hope for tomorrow, SECOM’s long-term commitment to addressing systemic racism and advocating for all of our Neighbors remains unwavering. SECOM’s staff and board actively promote inclusiveness and are committed to establishing and supporting a safe, welcoming, and racism-free environment through all policies, practices, programs, community, and business relationships.
Addressing issues of inequity in our community has always been and will remain a focus of SECOM’s work. We are continuously compelled to challenge ourselves to be better and do better. To become more aware of our own implicit bias. To learn what we can do—what we must do--to better understand, uplift, and serve our Neighbors with the goal of equity and equality for all. We promise to strive today and every day to be that beacon of hope our organization was founded on more than 50 years ago.

Our Location
SECOM is located in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our location puts us in the middle of what is termed a 'Food Desert'. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, a "food desert" is a place where people have limited access to a variety of healthy and affordable food. Studies have shown that these locations have higher percentage of minority populations as well as increased unemployment rates. SECOM's location ensures nutritional food access and resources for families in an area that is insufficient to support them. |
